Results show that RedThread is achieving its mission of providing clothes that fit through a fast and convenient process — just 5% of orders are returned, with 60% of customers returning to purchase again.
The brand was born out of founder Meghan Litchfield’s own frustrations with the fit of women’s clothing, an issue that most women have experienced. According to RedThread’s surveys, 90% of women struggle to find clothing off the rack that fits their bodies. After trying on 20 pairs of pants to no avail, many settle for garments in the wrong size or shape. Many of these purchases get returned, costing the industry $550bn in revenue each year, while the rest sit at the back of our wardrobes, unused with a landfill or incinerator awaiting it.
Launched with the ambition to help women feel comfortable in their clothes, RedThread is a women’s apparel brand replacing ill-fitting fast fashion with custom-fit garments designed to fit flawlessly and last long.
Mobile Tailor: A solution to RedThread’s sizing struggles
RedThread recognized that typical fashion retail experiences weren’t working for its customer base, largely made up of Gen X, Millennials, and Baby Boomers with a lack of time to shop around. Nor would it meet the expectations of Gen Z, set to be the largest consumer segment by 2030, who value sustainability and inclusivity above all else.
Meghan Litchfield, Founder and CEO of Redthread, why she chose 3D technology as a core of her MTM business
Litchfield determined that the solution was to ditch modern sizing practices and return to custom-made clothing. However, the process also needed to be faster, easier, and more convenient than the traditional made-to-measure process. Affordability was also a must, with cost often a sticking point for custom-fit customers.
Despite considering many methods, RedThread settled on 3DLOOK’s Mobile Tailor solution to collect measurements from its customers.
3DLOOK’s mobile scanning technology enables us to scale on-demand manufacturing and deliver a perfect fit to our customer’s door without an in-person visit or measuring tape! The team is incredible to work with – they are responsive, curious, and committed to creating the world’s best mobile scanning measurement technology

While customers are often initially wary of this digital solution, RedThread’s low return rate is proof of its reliability. Currently, just 5% of orders are returned, compared to an industry average of 20-30%, with 60% of customers returning to shop with RedThread again and again.
People always ask me, does it actually work? Yes, it does! And we know that because of our customer satisfaction, our reviews, and our very low return rate.
