Frequently asked questions

General questions

What sets 3DLOOK's scanning technology apart from other solutions?

3DLOOK’s scanning is built on a proprietary statistical generative human body model and delivers body measurements and body composition estimates through a simple, mobile-first capture flow. Unlike hardware-dependent or multi-step systems, we only require two photos and guide users in real time to capture them correctly—using pose validation and real-time quality checks for factors that impact results (e.g., clothing and environment). Results are processed in under a minute. FitXpress is delivered via our API and web/mobile SDKs, making it straightforward to embed the guided capture and results directly into your existing web or mobile experience.

How does FitXpress work?

FitXpress utilizes two smartphone photos and computer vision to generate a 3D body model and return body composition metrics, measurements, and progress metrics via an API. Users follow a guided capture flow in your web or mobile experience. The system validates pose and capture quality in real-time, then segments the body, estimates landmarks, reconstructs the 3D output, and calculates results, allowing businesses to track changes consistently over time.

How accurate are your 3D body scans and how repeatable are the results?

3DLOOK’s AI-powered body measurement technology demonstrates approximately 96-97% accuracy compared with manual measurements across all body metrics and 95%+ repeatability, providing reliable, consistent data.

How does FitXpress compare to DEXA scans?

FitXpress is optimized for scalable, frequent, and accessible monitoring, while DEXA is best suited for clinical diagnostics and specialized medical use.

How does FitXpress compare with dedicated hardware scanners?

FitXpress delivers repeatable measurements and progress tracking without dedicated hardware. Hardware scanners typically require a higher upfront cost and in-person visits to a physical device; FitXpress is mobile, faster to deploy, and supports scanning across locations — or at home — so it scales with far less friction.

How do you address privacy?

FitXpress is designed to minimize exposure of personal data: images are blurred, used only to generate scan results, and deleted immediately after processing. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is controlled via role-based permissions, and we don’t have access to PII in the FitXpress workflow. We can also align retention and security requirements with your organization during implementation.

How secure is the data?

FitXpress maintains HIPAA compliance and adheres to GDPR principles, with robust safeguards to protect user data. All data is automatically encrypted both during transmission and at rest using advanced encryption protocols (TLS and server-side encryption with Amazon S3 managed keys (SSE-S3)).

What value can FitXpress bring to our business?

FitXpress helps you drive better outcomes with less friction: it increases member/patient engagement through visual progress tracking, improves retention by keeping people motivated, and creates measurable, trackable results you can use to prove program value. Operationally, it scales across locations (and at home) without dedicated hardware, reduces staff time versus manual measurements, and gives you consistent data to personalize coaching, trigger interventions, and support reporting.

Scanning questions

Are there specific clothing requirements?

FitXpress works best when users wear tight-fitting bottoms (e.g., leggings) and tops (e.g., tight T-shirt, tank top, sports bra).

How long does it take to scan?

The full scan flow takes under a minute, with processing typically under 40 seconds. Once processing completes, results are returned to your platform via the API in real time.

What if the user is alone? How do they scan?

Users can scan alone. FitXpress guides them through the capture flow and supports self-scanning using the phone on a stable surface (desk height table) with a timed capture/remote trigger, so no second person is required.

Product questions

What body composition metrics do you compute?

FitXpress delivers 80+ precise body measurements from a 3D model, including Fat %, BMI, BMR, Fat Mass, and Lean Body Mass for comprehensive insights — all in under 45 seconds.

Do you have an option for our customers to upload existing photos?

No, we don’t support uploading existing photos. FitXpress requires photos captured through our web and mobile SDKs because they include real-time pose validation and gyroscope-based angle guidance to ensure the capture meets our requirements. That control is what drives consistent, reliable results across users and over time.

What integration is required to use FitXpress?

FitXpress is delivered via API and web/mobile SDKs, so an integration is required. Your team embeds the SDK for guided capture in your app or web experience and uses the API to submit scans and retrieve results. We provide documentation and sample flows to keep implementation straightforward.
